Sprint 4G LTE expands to four new cities, HTC EVO 4G LTE update with Sense 4.1 starts rolling out

Sprint's LTE rollout continues today, as a handful of new cities now have access to the Now Network's new 4G service. Sprint this morning announced that its LTE network has been introduced in Baltimore, Md., Gainesville, Ga., Manhattan/Junction City, Kan., and Sedalia, Mo. Additionally, Sprint users in Baltimore, Boston and Washington D.C. should begin seeing improved 3G service as part of the carrier's Network Vision project. Sprint says that the improved 3G coverage should offer a clearer signal, better coverage inside buildings and fewer dropped calls.

That's not the only good Sprint news that we've got for you today, as it appears that the carrier has begun pushing an update out to the HTC EVO 4G LTE. The new software brings the EVO 4G LTE up to 2.13.651.1 and brings a host of enhancements, such as an LTE scanning improvement and the latest versions of Google Wallet and Visual Voicemail. Additionally, a user in the Sprint support forums that's already received the update reports that it includes a bump to Android 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1, as well as the tweak that allows users to set the Recent Apps button to act as a Menu key. Sprint's changelog of the update is as follows:

HTC EVO 4G LTE Software Update - 2.13.651.1 (MR2)

Enhancements/Fixes:

  • Browser no longer randomly closes from bookmarks
  • Bluetooth fix (minor)
  • Latest Version of Google Wallet
  • Latest Version of Visual Voicemail
  • LTE Scanning Improvement

Earlier this year, Sprint had promised that the four cities gaining LTE coverage today would be getting that service before Labor Day rolled around, so it looks like the carrier stuck to its word. Sprint says that it still plans to have its 4G LTE rollout "largely completed" by the end of 2013. EVO 4G LTE owners don't have to wait that long for something new to play with since the device's update should begin rolling out today, though Sprint notes that it's being pushed out in stages. If you're rocking an EVO 4G LTE and want to give Sense 4.1 a go for yourself, you can check for it manually by grabbing your device (or getting someone to do all this work for you) and heading on into Menu > Settings > System updates > HTC software update > Check now. If you get access to either Sprint's LTE network or the EVO 4G LTE's update today, don't forget to tell us all about it in the comments below!
