The calendar has flipped over to August, and that means that it's time for some fresh Android distribution numbers. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean made its first appearance on the chart this month, showing up on 0.8 percent of the devices that accessed the Google Play store during the two weeks leading up to August 1. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich finished the two-week period with a 15.9 percent share, which is a nice increase from the 10.9 percent share it had in July. Android 3.1/3.2 Honeycomb finished with a 2.3 percent share, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread has again claimed the top spot with 60.6 percent, which is actually a drop from the 64 percent share it had last month. Rounding out the list is Android 2.2 Froyo with 15.5 percent, Android 2.1 Eclair with 4.2 percent, Android 1.6 Donut with 0.5 percent and Android 1.5 Cupcake with 0.2 percent.
Considering that Jelly Bean is currently only available on a handful of devices, such as the Galaxy Nexus and Motorola XOOM Wi-Fi, it's not too surprising to see it debut on this chart with a sub-1 percent share. Meanwhile, Ice Cream Sandwich saw a healthy jump from July to August, likely thanks to sales of new devices like the Galaxy S III as well as updates for existing handsets like the Epic 4G Touch. That percentage ought to keep growing as more updates and new ICS-toting products come to market in the next month. So, Android users, which slice of that pie up there do you belong to?
