Samsung said yesterday that the removal of local search from the international Galaxy S III was "inadvertent" and that the feature would be returning soon, and they weren't kidding. A new update that Samsung bills as offering "stability improvements" has begun rolling out to the international Galaxy S III, and included is the universal search functionality. The update is a small one, weighing at 5MB, and bumps the S III up to software version XXBLG8.
The update that removed local search from the international Galaxy S III began rolling out just a couple of days ago, so it's nice to see Samsung act swiftly to restore the functionality to owners of the device. Of course, owners of the AT&T and Sprint variants haven't been so lucky, and since the whole Apple-Samsung kerfuffle that's causing the removal of local search in the first place is happening in the U.S., it's not clear when those devices will regain the feature.
