It's still unclear whether or not AT&T plans to charge users that make FaceTime calls over a cellular connection, but one carrier confirmed today that it won't be implementing any extra fees for the upcoming iOS 6 feature. In a statement sent to the Wall Street Journal, a Sprint spokesperson said that the Now Network is "committed to our unlimited data and that means not charging for data consumption based on the application."
While there's certainly a chance that AT&T will follow Sprint's lead and not charge users for using FaceTime over its network, the big blue carrier isn't quite ready to commit either way. Speaking at a recent tech conference, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said that "it's too early to talk about pricing" when it comes to FaceTime over cellular. Meanwhile, Verizon declined to issue a comment to the WSJ. Considering how committed Sprint has been to offering unlimited data to its customers, it's not much of a surprise to learn that it won't be implementing an extra FaceTime over cellular fee, but it's nice to get this confirmation anyway. Now we wait for AT&T and Verizon to come forward with their own plans for FaceTime calls made over their networks.
