Google's Chrome browser has been available to Android users since February, but today the iOS crowd will finally it's chance to give Chrome a go as well. Google announced at it's day two I/O keynote today that the Chrome browser is coming to the iOS App Store today. The app will be available for both the iPhone and iPad and will support many of the same features found in the Android version, including syncing of tabs and incognito mode.
Also announced at I/O today is the availability of the Google Drive app for iOS. When Google announced Drive at the end of April, it said iOS support would be coming soon, but today is the first time that the company has mentioned anything on the matter since. A Google Drive app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch will be available today in the iOS App Store.
The Chrome browser has been one of the more oft-requested iOS apps ever since the Android version launched earlier this year, and it's nice to see that Google is finally making it happen. Unfortunately, Chrome won't get access to the Nitro Javascript engine used to speed up Mobile Safari, and since third-party apps can't be set as iOS's default browser, it's unlikely that an iOS user will be able to eliminate Mobile Safari completely from their life. For anyone that owns an iOS product and is a heavy use of Chrome on their main computer, though, today's news is still rather exciting. We'll be sure to update you when the Chrome and Drive apps go live in the App Store.
UPDATE: The Google Drive app is now live in the App Store. It's a universal app and is requires iOS 5.0 or later. We've got a couple of screenshots below, and you can download it from iTunes right here.
UPDATE 2: And now Chrome has made its way to the App Store as well. Like Drive, Chrome is a universal app, but Chrome only requires users be on iOS 4.3. You can download it from the App Store here.
