Hot on the heels of a report that HTC has been hit with a new ITC complaint from Apple, some more bad news for the manufacturer has come out. According to a report from Bloomberg, Microsoft won't be allowing HTC to create devices running Windows RT, the version of Windows 8 that works with ARM chips and is meant for us on devices like tablets. The publication's sources claim that Microsoft doesn't feel that HTC sells enough devices or have as much experience making tablets as other companies that it could work with. It's also said that HTC wanted to create a device with a custom home screen to help it stand out, but Microsoft refused. One tipster said that HTC may get a chance to launch a Windows RT device in the second round of products that's expected next year.
While all of this information is still a rumor at this point, it's definitely a bummer for both HTC and fans of its products. Microsoft's decision, if true, also comes as a bit of a surprise considering that HTC has already worked with Microsoft on a number of Windows Phones, including the HD7 and Titan. We may still see Microsoft and HTC collaborate on Windows Phone 8 later this year, but if you're planning on picking up a Windows RT tablet, it sounds like you may have to select a product from one of the other manufacturers churning them out.
