The NVIDIA news continues this afternoon, as general manager Mike Rayfield revealed some juicy tidbits of information during a company investor meeting today. First up, Rayfield said that NVIDIA's quad-core Tegra 3 processor will appear in a total of 30 smartphones in 2012, which is double the number that had the Tegra 2 system-on-chip last year. Don't expect to see all of those in the U.S., though, as Rayfield went on to say that 18 of those devices are bound for China.
Hot on the heels of this morning's announcement that the Icera 410 modem has been validated to work with AT&T's LTE network, NVIDIA also took the wraps off of the follow-up to the 410, known as the Icera 500. Details on the 500 are still light, but Rayfield did say that it'll be capable of next generation LTE speeds. He also explained that the 500 will be part of NVIDIA's "Grey" chipset with integrated LTE that's expected next year. If you don't feel like waiting that long for Icera LTE goodness, NVIDIA says that the Icera 410 will be making an appearance later this year.
Sound good, NVIDIA fans? We've already seen a couple of Tegra 3 handsets debut this year (international One X and Optimus 4X HD), and it's exciting to hear that NVIDIA is expecting another 28 before the calendar flips to 2013, even if a number of those phones are China-bound. Exactly what those devices are remains to be seen, but it'll definitely be interesting to see what kinds of hardware come to market with the Tegra 3 SoC through the remainder of the year. Stay tuned!
