Samsung trumpets worldwide Galaxy Note shipments of five million [UPDATED]

It was just a few months ago that Samsung was touting the fact that the Galaxy Note had shipped one million units worldwide, and today the company announced that the 5.3-inch smartphone has crossed another milestone. Samsung has revealed that it's shipped five million Galaxy Notes worldwide since the end of October last year. The Galaxy Note has been available on AT&T here in the U.S. since February.

The Galaxy Note has been a bit of a polarizing device thanks to its large 5.3-inch touchscreen, but it appears that the device that's earned the title of "phablet" from some has been doing alright for itself since launch. It's also worth noting (zing!) that the Note is currently sitting atop the People's Choice list and is holding down the number three spot on the Expert's Choice list on PhoneDog's Official Smartphone Rankings, so there's a lot to celebrate today when it comes to Samsung's S Pen-toting handset. Next up: Ice Cream Sandwich. How many of you have a Samsung Galaxy Note?

UPDATE: The original machine translation of Samsung's press release announcing this news caused a bit of confusion as to whether there have been five million Galaxy Notes sold or shipped. Samsung has now clarified the situation, saying that it has sold five million Galaxy Notes.
