ASUS: No plans for 3G Transformer Prime, original Transformer ICS update in approval process

Bad news for those of you that are waiting for that 3G-enabled version of the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime that we heard about earlier this month, as ASUS has apparently come forward to say that it's currently got no plans to release such a device. A report out of Focus Taiwan claims that ASUS has said in a statement that the claims that a 3G Transformer Prime is in the pipeline are inaccurate and that "no such product exists on its current roadmap." However, the same report alleges that the company is prepping 3G-capable versions of "other high-end products in the Transformer family."

In other Transformer-related news, the North American arm of ASUS took to Facebook over the weekend to shed some light on the progress of the original Transformer's Ice Cream Sandwich update. Responding to a question about when the slate will be getting upgraded to Android 4.0, ASUS said that the update will be coming "soon," adding that it's currently going through Google's approval process.

So good news for the Transformer crowd and some not so good news for anyone hoping for a 3G Transformer Prime. The latter is definitely kind of a bummer, but with mobile hotspot support on most smartphones and many businesses offering Wi-Fi connectivity, most folks should be able to make due with the Wi-Fi-only version of the Transformer Prime.
