Earlier this week, Verizon confirmed that it's prepping an update for the Galaxy Nexus to address the signal strength issues that some have been seeing, and today the carrier has detailed just how it plans to do that. In a statement that was just released, Verizon says that there's "no issue with the performance" of the Galaxy Nexus, but that the way that its signal is translated into the bars you see on-screen. The update will change that and bring the way that the Nexus displays signal strength to be more in line with Verizon's other products. The word straight from Verizon:
"There is no issue with the performance of the device. There is a difference in the way the signal is translated into bars on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus compared to other smart phones. A future software update will adjust the signal strength indicator to more closely match other Verizon Wireless devices."
The fix that Verizon mentions may not be the one that most were expecting, but the carrier's explanation seems to line up with a recent report from Anandtech that showed that the Galaxy Nexus's signal strength was just as good as (if not better than) other LTE devices, but that it shows that strength in a different, more accurate way. However, some folks are reporting that they're seeing worse data performance on the Galaxy Nexus when compared to other Verizon 4G LTE devices, so it should be interesting to see how the Nexus performs post-update.
