Today a new bug was discovered within Windows Phone that, if triggered, renders the handset's Messaging Hub unable to load, basically killing the its messaging ability. The flaw, discovered by WinRumors, works simply by sending a certain string of characters as a message to a phone using SMS, Facebook chat or Windows Live Messenger. After receiving the message, the target device will reboot and then will be unable to load the Messaging Hub once rebooted. The only way to get the Hub back to normal? A full wipe and restore. The bug has been shown to affect phones running the current build of Mango (7740) as well as the Mango RTM build (7720).
Sounds like kind of a scary bug, no? The good news is that WinRumors and Khaled Salameh reported the bug to Microsoft rather than spreading it around or anything like that. Microsoft tonight confirmed to Phone Scoop that it's aware of the problem and is working on a resolution, but the company didn't offer a timeframe on when a patch might arrive.
