Motorola Xoom 2, Xoom 2 Media Edition to receive DROID Xyboard branding on Verizon?

Earlier this month we saw Motorola make the Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition official in the U.K. and Ireland. However, even though both devices were recently spotted in Verizon's internal systems, there's been nary a peep from either Moto or Big Red about when the new pair of slates might be released Stateside. That's still the case today, but a new report over at Pocketnow claim to have details on what the new Xooms may be named when they hit Verizon's shelves. Based on some "pretty compelling evidence," the site believes that the devices will be known as the DROID Xyboard 8.2 and DROID Xyboard 10.1. Pocketnow supports its claim by pointing out that Verizon applied for trademark protection on the term "Xyboard" last month.

One would think that Motorola and Verizon would stick with the Xoom branding when it releases the new models here in the U.S., especially considering that the two new tablets have already been made official as the Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition over in Ireland and the U.K. Of course, we often see the same phone released with different names in different parts of the world, so perhaps Big Red and Moto are in the mood to try something new with a bit of a Samsung-like naming scheme here in the States. The good news is that the rumor mill has pegged both of the new Xooms as launching on November 30th, so we may not be far off from finding out the answer to this mystery. Stay tuned.
