Republic Wireless to intro $19 unlimited talk, text, and data plan

Think that your current cell phone bill is a tad too high? If so, you may want to listen up. A new wireless provider named Republic Wireless is set to unveil a plan that will offer unlimited voice minutes, text messages, and unlimited 3G data for just $19 per month. The company plans to achieve this low, low pricing by selling special handsets capable of making calls, sending texts, and going online using a regular Wi-Fi connection (similar to T-Mobile's UMA devices), having its customers use cellular networks only when out of range of a Wi-Fi signal. Republic Wireless will reportedly be purchasing network access from Sprint initially. There's no mention of what kind of devices Republic plans to offer, though the company's teaser website shows an unbranded LG Optimus S, suggesting that we could see at least one Android phone.

Republic Wireless's $19 unlimited plan sounds like an interesting prospect, especially considering how cheap the offering is compared to what the major national U.S. carriers are offering. It's kind of a bummer that customers will need to purchase special hardware capable of Wi-Fi calling to use Republic's plan, but for $19 per month, I'm sure that there will be plenty of people willing to make that sacrifice as long as the whole thing works as advertised. Republic plans to reveal more details on November 8th, so we'll be sure to keep you in the loop as we hear more.
