It was just a little over a week ago that AT&T launched its own Galaxy S II, a full-touch device that, of the three U.S. GSII models, most closely resembles the original international version. Back before the AT&T GSII was even officially unveiled, though, it was (for a short time) thought that the device you see above may have been AT&T's version of the Galaxy S II. Now we know that that's not the case, but that hasn't changed the fact that folks are still jonesing to get their hands on this QWERTY slider, and luckily some more details about it have emerged today. According to a source speaking with BGR, the phone in question is known as the Samsung Captivate Glyde, combining the names of AT&T's first Galaxy S phone with an old-school slider released on Verizon. The tipster claims that the Captivate Glyde is currently expected to launch in Q1 2012 with an 8-megapixel camera in tow.
Although the Captivate Glyde — or whatever it ends up being called — may still be a few months out, it looks like a device that should immediately jump to the top of the wish list of any AT&T customer that lives and dies by the physical keyboard. Plus, the current crop of Android QWERTY phones on AT&T is a bit lacking in the high-end, so this handset is definitely one we're going to continue to keep an eye on.
