Microsoft reportedly demanding Samsung fork over $15 for each Android phone it makes

We've seen Microsoft go after Android device manufacturers over the belief that its software patents are being used in the those companies' products, and the latest firm that Microsoft has reportedly set its crosshairs on is Samsung. According to a report from Reuters, Microsoft has "demanded" that Samsung pay a licensing fee of $15 for each Android smartphone that the Korean firm produces. Samsung has allegedly responded by offering to pay $10 per Android handset and agreeing to forge a stronger bond with Microsoft and the Windows Phone platform.

The $15 fee that Microsoft is seeking from Samsung is just a tad higher than the $5 it's getting from HTC for its Android phones, although it remains to be seen exactly how much Sammy will end up paying Microsoft if and when a deal actually gets done. Considering the popularity of Samsung devices like the Galaxy S II, I'd say that Microsoft is in for a pretty big pay day no matter how much the two firms agree to.
