Yesterday we learned about RIM's new BlackBerry 7 OS and all of the new features that it'll pack when it lands on the 9900/9930 later this year. The company also touched on a couple of things that BB 7 won't feature, though, which anyone looking forward to the OS may want to know about. RIM has confirmed that the BlackBerry 7 OS won't have support for Android apps like the PlayBook does, and that it'll also forgo Flash support. Instead, you can expect to utilize HTML5 on BB7-powered devices. The good news is that RIM is working hard to bring its QNX-based OS to BlackBerry smartphones, which sounds like it will support Flash in the browser, although we probably won't be seeing that OS until early next year.
It's not terribly surprising to learn that there'll be no Android app support on BlackBerry 7, but I'm sure that there will be more than a few folks that will be disappointed at the lack of Flash support. I think it's kind of strange that BB7 won't sport Flash considering that it could be a banner feature for the OS and that any device with specs like the 9900 could support it. How many of you think that no Android apps or Flash in BlackBerry 7 is a big deal?
