Yesterday Apple finally launched the white iPhone 4, around 10 months after the device was originally introduced. At first blush, the only difference between the white and black iPhone 4 is the color, but it seems that there's actually another subtle thing that's different about the frosty white handset. It's been revealed that the white iPhone 4 is actually 0.2 millimeters thicker than the black model, as you can see in the comparison shot above. That may not seem like much, but it can actually make a difference with some cases that fit snugly on the black iPhone 4.
There hasn't really been any explanation as to why the white iPhone 4 is thicker than the black, but in an interview detailing why the albino handset was so difficult to manufacture, Apple exec Phil Schiller explained that it needs more UV protection from the sun than the black version does, so that's one theory to consider. Whatever the reason, those of you planning on upgrading from the black iPhone 4 to the white model may want to try and find someone else with the white version so you can ensure that your existing case (if you use one) will fit.
