Rumor: Amazon launching a Samsung-made Android tablet this summer

Amazon's been making headlines in the mobile world lately with the launch of its Appstore for Android and Cloud Drive/Cloud Player, but a new report is claiming that the company's got something even bigger up its sleeve. Peter Rojas, founder of gdgt, said earlier today that he's "99% certain" that Samsung is hard at work creating an Android-powered tablet for Amazon and that, while he's not sure exactly when it'll launch, it'll probably arrive no later than this summer. Other details about the slate are still light, but Rojas thinks that it could be a Nook Color-type of device, with a heavily customized UI running on top of Android that would connect to all kinds of Amazon services like Cloud Player, Instant Video, Appstore, etc.

Considering how big the tablet market is becoming and all of the Android-related services that Amazon has been launching lately, it seems like a pretty safe bet to assume that the company is prepping some sort of tablet device running Google's mobile OS. When you add all of that evidence with all of the success that Amazon has had with the Kindle these past few years, you've got a device that's got the potential to really make a big splash when it launches. What do you all think of an Android-powered Amazon tablet? Does it sound like a device you'd be interested in, or do you think Amazon should keep away from Android?
