After Apple announced the dates for WWDC, we heard one report claim that the event would be strictly software-focused, meaning there wouldn't be a new iPhone shown off like we've seen in the past few years. Now All Things D is corroborating that claim, saying that there won't be a new iPhone present at WWDC in June. There was no reason given for "delay," although John Paczkowski guesses that it may have something to do with including LTE support in the next iPhone.
There's been a lot of back and forth on whether or not the iPhone 5 will feature LTE connectivity or not, with Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead saying that he was very confident that Apple will be launching LTE products. Launching an LTE iPhone 5 later in 2011 would certainly allow Verizon and AT&T more time to spread their 4G networks, and it would also give folks that picked up the Verizon iPhone 4 a bit more time to enjoy their handset before it becomes last year's model. On the other hand, though, Apple said that it didn't put LTE support in the VeriPhone because they would've had to make design compromises that they didn't want to go through with, and I'm not sure that the tech has advanced enough to convince them to try and add it into this year's new model. What do you all think? Will Apple push the next iPhone's debut into later in 2011 or will they stick with their yearly refresh cycle and reveal it at WWDC?
