Palm Pre, Pre Plus, Pixi, and Pixi Plus won't be upgraded to webOS 2.0

There's was a lot of good news for the webOS faithful at HP's event today, but unfortunately we've got a little bad news to go along with it. Jon Rubinstein revealed today that the Pre, Pre Plus, Pixi, and Pixi Plus won't be upgraded to webOS 2.0, contrary to news that we heard last November. The reason for the lack of upgrades, Rubinstein says, is that Palm "missed a product cycle" during the whole HP acquisition and that those older devices simply don't have the hardware necessary to run new versions of the OS properly. Don't be too bummed out, Pre/Pixi owners, because Rubinstein also said that HP had "something special" up its sleeve for you when the Pre 3, Veer, and TouchPad arrive.

It's pretty disappointing that the webOS users that have stuck with the platform this far won't get to experience HP's spiffy new OS on their existing devices, especially since they were already promised it last year. Still, I'm sure that Jon Rubinstein and HP will make sure that all of those owners get taken care of. Perhaps some discounts on a new webOS device? What do you all think HP should do to appease owners of the Pre, Pre Plus, Pixi, and Pixi Plus?
