AT&T offering some iPhone owners an unlimited data plan?

AT&T made some waves last June when they eliminated their unlimited data plan and replaced it with two tiered options, but with the Verizon iPhone around the corner, they may be rethinking their decision. According to the Associated Press, ATT is getting in contact with some of its customers that had unlimited data but switched to a capped plan and giving them the option to switch back to the unlimited offering. AT&T wouldn't confirm that they were allowing subscribers to make the switch.

While I'm sure that AT&T would never admit it, it's widely assumed that they're offering customers an unlimited data plan in order to keep them from defecting to Verizon, which we know will offer an unlimited data plan with its iPhone early next month. I'm not sure that AT&T will completely reinstate its all-you-can-eat data option, especially since Verizon has said that their own unlimited plan will eventually bite the dust, but if you're stuck with tiered data and intend to stick with ATT, it could be worth a shot to call them and ask to be switched. If any of you do manage to make it back onto an AT&T unlimited data plan, be sure to let us know!
