"Exploding" DROID 2 was actually just dropped, says Motorola employee

Last week, we heard a story about a DROID 2 that allegedly exploded in a Texas man's ear, causing him to need four stitches.  Many of you were a little skeptical about the idea of a phone exploding, and today a source within Motorola has confirmed those suspicions.  Speaking to the folks at PCMag, the Moto tipster claimed that the "explosive" DROID 2 was actually just one that got dropped.  After dropping the phone, Aron Embry failed to notice the shattered glass and ended up cutting himself with the device.  The source goes on to explain that if the D2 actually had blown up, the phone would no longer be working and there would be some sort of visual evidence of an explosion, like internal parts being blown outward.

There's no word on whether or not this Motorola employee has actually inspected the phone, although he/she is "involved with Droid development," so the person obviously knows something about the handset.  It's entirely possible that Embry did drop the phone and then procede to cut his ear on the shattered glass, although it's strange that he could drop the phone and not even look at it afterward.  Maybe I'm just strange, but the first thing I do after dropping a phone is inspect it to see if anything broke, got scratched, etc.  Then again, the idea that the phone exploded seems kind of hard to believe, too, especially when you remember that only the antenna and speaker are behind the exploded portion of Embry's phone.  It's unlikely that we'll ever hear anything official from Motorola on this story, but we can hope.  I just need to hear how The Tale of the Exploding Droid ends.
