Microsoft confirms Windows Phone 7 push notification limit

Rumors have been flying lately about a limitation on the number of apps that can use push notifications on Windows Phone 7, and now Microsoft has come forward with the official word on the matter.  Jaime Rodriguez says that yes, a limitation of 15 apps is there, but it's not as restrictive as some may have thought.  Only 15 apps can be set to receive push notifications at one time, whether that's live tiles or toast notifications, but Microsoft apps, like Outlook, don't count toward your total.  Also, you don't have to uninstall apps to free up slots, you simply have to turn off notifications for those particular apps.  Why the limit?  Rodriguez explains that after doing research and taking into account battery life, quality of service, etc., the WP7 team decided that 15 was an appropriate number for typical users. 

This whole limit on the number of apps using push notifications is kind of disappointing.  I say that if a user wants to drain their battery faster by using more notifications, let them.  Still, there are other things to take into account, too, like bandwidth concerns.  Plus, Rodriguez did say that it's entirely possible that the 15 app limit could be increased in the future, so don't let this limit deter you from giving Windows Phone 7 a shot.  What do you WP7 users make of this 15 app notification limit?
