Yesterday, Pageonce posted some aggregate user data on across various mobile platforms. Their data represented in these charts was taken from a random sample of 275,000 users with at least 5000 users per platform. The first chart shows that iPhone users have a 35% higher balance on their monthly credit cards statements than Windows Mobile users. BlackBerry and Android users sit neatly in the middle. This information makes sense and ultimately fits the stereotypes that we (don't lie, we all do it) place on different smartphone users. The true surprise comes from chart number two, which was on average monthly mobile phone bill charges, and surprisingly Windows Mobile, yes WinMo, tops the chart.
This data is actually the opposite of what you would think. Windows Mobile users have an average monthly bill of $205.33 while Android, BlackBerry and iPhone users sit at $196.94, $194.35, and 164.91 respectively. These averages are of the current bill and any past due charges. As Pageonce noted, BlackBerry users' higher bills can be accounted for by the business accounts and enterprise users that have to pay extra for that service. I would assume that both Android and Windows Mobile users are more prone to have family plans than many iPhone users. I know a lot of people bailed on their family plan and moved to AT&T as a single line to get their hands specifically on the iPhone, so that could definitely account for the lower bills. Single lines are always going to be cheaper than family plans, and this data doesn't account for that.
Either way, all of these bills are high, and Brian over at Gizmodo was right, WinMo users are probably spending less trying to spend less on their credit card to save up for a new phone, possibly Windows Phone 7. They're probably still on old plans too, ancient plans. What do you guys and gals make of this? Do your bills average close to these?
