If you live in or around Detroit, you may now rejoice. MetroPCS has brought LTE to your doorstep. Unfortunately, there is only one device at this time that can utilize the newly activated LTE network, the Samsung Craft. The Craft (pictured above) is a messaging phone that utilizes 4G for MetroPCS' video on demand service which will cost you an extra $5 per month. No MetroPCS smartphones or wireless broadband cards support LTE yet, but we will see them someday down the road, hopefully soon rather than later. So for now, if you've got a Samsung Craft enjoy the open LTE highway, it's yours to dominate without worry of any smartphones hogging your bandwidth.
MetroPCS 4G plans do not require a contract and will set you back $55 and $60 per month and will include, calling, text messaging, and web browsing (click here for more details). They are targeting customers that want all the features that smartphones offer, but without the two-year agreement.
This makes the third location that MetroPCS has switched on LTE, previously enabling it in Las Vegas and Dallas. They have a decent head start on Verizon and the other US carriers, seeing that they're the only carrier offering that sweet, sweet LTE 4G to consumers at the moment. Hats off to MetroPCS for not dragging feet and bringing LTE to markets faster than anyone else.
