Google has said in the past that Android 2.2 is not designed for use on a tablet device, and Lenovo seems to agree. Although the company is releasing the Android-powered LePad tablet in China in the next few months, Lenovo won't be releasing anything in the U.S. until Honeycomb is made available. Lenovo COO Rory Reid has said that he agrees with Google in that version 2.2 is not "the right base to have a fully functioning pad." As it stands, Lenovo may launch its tablet by the summer of next year, but that's all contingent on when Honeycomb is released.
We've heard that the majority of manufacturers planning to release Android tablets will be waiting until at least Q1 2011 to do so, so it looks like most companies are taking an approach similar to Lenovo's. Samsung is launching their Galaxy Tab with Android 2.2 on all four carriers, so it'll be interesting to see how that device fares with the public and the tech industry.
