Apple's antenna design on the iPhone 4 has certainly caused some controversy since the device's initial launch, with the whole situation even earning the title "Antennagate." The company sent free bumpers to every iPhone 4 owner to help remedy the situation, but a recent rumor suggests that they'll soon be taking things a step further. According to Marco Quatorze, Director of Value Added Services for Mexican carrier Telcel, Apple will be releasing a revised iPhone 4 without the notorious reception issues at the end of September, precisely when the company's free case program is set to end.
As noted by MacRumors, it's unclear whether Mr. Quatorze is actually referring to a redesigned iPhone 4 or if he has misunderstood Apple's September 30th date for the end of their free case program. What is also confusing is how he would gain access to such information. We all know how secretive Apple is about their upcoming products, and I'm not sure that a redesigned iPhone 4 is something that the company would go around announcing to every executive at every carrier. Still, Steve Jobs did say that the free case program existed to give the company time to perhaps come up with a solution for future customers, so perhaps a new iPhone 4 with an improved antenna is in the cards.
