Sony Ericsson and AT&T recently teamed up to release the XPERIA X10 here in the U.S. Unfortunately, the device is running Android 1.6, and while Sony Ericsson's skin does bring some useful features to the table, there's no denying that the X10 is running an outdated version of Android. Good news for XPERIA owners, though, as Sony Ericsson's UK Twitter account announced today that the XPERIA X10 line of phones will be getting an upgrade to Android 2.1 by the end of September. Originally scheduled for Q4 2010, it's great to see the update pushed up so far. Keep in mind, though, that it's unclear whether Sony Ericsson's Twitter account was referring to the U.S. XPERIA devices or if it applies only to those lucky owners in the U.K. We'll update you when we learn more.
It's pretty disappointing that Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X10 launched on AT&T with Android 1.6 in tow, especially considering all of the high-end specs on the device and AT&T's smaller Android lineup. Once the device is upgraded to Android 2.1, sales of the device could definitely increase. Sure, it's not Froyo, but 2.1 is certainly better than being stuck at Android 1.6 or, even worse, 1.5.
