It's a new day, everyone, and you know what that means: time for another Verizon iPhone rumor! This time, Boy Genius Report has stated that Apple is currently testing both a CDMA iPhone and the next generation iPad. This rumor comes from one of BGR's Apple sources, who points to a bit of code miles beneath the surface of iOS 4 that allows a CDMA iPhone or iPad 2 to auto-activate, cutting iTunes out of the equation. This code has shown up in the launch of every iPhone or other major device, but is removed upon release. Finally, BGR has heard from a separate source that the CDMA iPhone's platform code is N92AP, similar to the N92 code we've heard from John Gruber in the past, and the next gen iPod Touch has a platform code of N81AP.
Given the avalanche of rumors that we've heard about a CDMA iPhone, I would have to guess that we'll be seeing one in the near future. I'm not completely sold on the idea that we'll see it unveiled by Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg this January at CES 2011, but perhaps some time shortly after that. Apple may even wait until next summer to put out the CDMA iPhone, that way they don't mess up their once a year iPhone product cycle.
