iPad production increased to 2 million per month and counting

The Apple iPad has been available for just over three months now and in that time it was estimated that production of the device had been increased to 1.2 million devices per month, as of one month ago.  Additionally, plans to continuously increase production up to 2.5 million iPads per month by the end of the year, have been estimated by DigiTimes last month.

Today, in a new report from DigiTimes, senior analyst Mingchi Kuo states that "Apple's monthly iPad orders to Taiwan makers surpassed two million units for July and the volume are expected to maintain above the level in the future."  Specifically, he said that "Apple is estimated to have outsourced 2.3-2.35 million iPads to Taiwan players in July with 58-60% for the Wi-Fi and 3G hybrid model despite Wi-Fi only models having stronger sales in the first half of 2010."

This increase in production is likely to keep up with current demand for the popular tablet, as well as to assure there are enough to go around as more international launches take place toward the end of the month.  The only thing I find a bit strange about the analysts report is the fact that he seemed surprised that the Wi-Fi only model had stronger sales in 1H 2010.  Considering the Wi-Fi only model was the only model available for over a month, it had a distinct advantage in sales, and it's not entirely surprising that the desire for the Wi-Fi + 3G model would increase once it became more readily available.  But that's just my opinion.  Still thinking about getting an iPad, which one's it going to be?
