The Motorola DROID is one of the best-selling Android phones ever, and apparently its sales are still strong, seven months after release. Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha has said that sales of the DROID "are going extremely well," adding "If I could build more I'd sell more." It sounds as though Motorola is running into issues with supplies similar to what HTC has been experiencing with the DROID Incredible. While it doesn't come as a surprise that Jha is saying that sales of his company's device are strong, it also makes sense considering that the DROID has a high-res screen, receives Android updates quickly, and is still one of the only Android phones available with a physical QWERTY keyboard. Considering how well the DROID has been selling since its release, it certainly seems as though it is the device that saved Motorola.
Continuing to on Android, Jha said that Motorola is planning to release anywhere between two to four Android devices this year with front-facing cameras for video chatting as well as a handset with a 2 GHz processor. The 2 GHz processor phone is planned to be released by the end of this year. Since Qualcomm was just recently showing off 1.2 GHz processors, a 2 GHz device seems like a bit of a stretch, but we would love to see it happen. The front-facing camera is a hot feature as of late, and it seems necessary to compete with new smartphones like the EVO 4G and iPhone 4. Verizon's close relationship with Skype could make video chatting even more popular, especially if the feature is enabled over 3G.
