Two new affordable phones ? AT&T gets Karma, VZW hits the Ozone

Two new handsets have landed to remind customers that not every cell phone purchase has to be a wallet-busting experience. AT&T just released a new teen-oriented sliding texter/social hub, and Verizon has unveiled a WinMo smartphone for the budget-conscious adult.



AT&T's Motorola Karma QA1 boasts lots of features for the money. At 3.46 x 2.51 x 0.70 inches, the quad-band EDGE/dual-band HSDPA device is kind of short and stubby until you pop open the slider to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. It's also got a 2.5-inch QVGA display, 2MP camera (with 8x zoom and LED flash), aGPS, web browser, media player, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, 3.5mm jack, microSDHC slot and social/communications features like Facebook, MySpace, IM, MMS and threaded SMS support. The Karma's selling for $79.99, with $50 MIR and 2-year contract.

Verizon's CDMA lineup just expanded with the HTC Ozone, which rocks WinMo 6.1 with dual-band 1xRTT/EVDO Rev. A, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE for international roaming, 2.4-inch QVGA display, full QWERTY with 5-way nav key, 2MP cam w/ auto-focus and vid capture, 256MB ROM/128MB RAM, Wifi (802.11b/g), Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and microSD slot (up to 16GB).

You can get the Ozone for $49.99 (with $70 MIR and 2-year contract) via the web, telesales or through business-to-business contracts. Otherwise, you might have to wait until July 13th, when it's expected in-store.
