Sprint reports 1.6 billion Q4 2008 loss, loses 1.27 million customers

Even in the wake of a somewhat better quarter (when compared to last year's Q4 losses), Sprint still faltered in Q4 2008.  The company reported a $1.6 billion loss in the forth quarter ending on December 31, 2008, primarily because of a $1 billion goodwill write-off of the 2005 buyout of Nextel Communications.  Total number of subscribers dropped 1.27 million to a total of 49.3 million customers.  Via Yahoo Business

Palm Pre requires soft matte battery cover to use Touchstone charger
When launched, the Palm Pre will require a soft matte battery cover instead of the stock glossy cover in order to use the Touchstone wireless charging solution.  Magnets are required for the charging technology, and while the matte battery cover has the necessary magnets, the glossy cover does not.  According to reports, when one orders the Touchstone charger, the matte battery cover will automatically ship with it.  Via Engadget Mobile

Eight years old is average for first cellular phone

The average child receives their first cellular phone at eight years of age, according to a survey conducted by the Personal Finance Education Group.  Additionally, 75 percent of children surveyed between ages seven and fifteen owned ?at least? one cellular phone.  A BlackBerry may be pushing it for a nine year old, but times are a changin?.  Via PhoneArena

RIM's SurePress technology wins award

Though it has a love/hate relationship with those who have used it for any period of time, the SurePress technology behind the BlackBerry Storm has won the ?Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough? at Mobile World Congress 2009.  Via BlackBerryCool
