It's one week until MacWorld 2009, and the rumors are flying. Time to place your bets: Are you lining up behind the debut of a highly pocketable iPhone Nano? What about a monster 32GB iPhone? And is Steve Jobs on death's door, as rumored?
Here's the hardware scuttlebutt: While some fervently hold up the desire to see a smaller, scaled-back version, others resuscitated the rumor of the 32GB phone, which first made the rounds before the 3G's release. Gossip trolls assert that 8GB iPhones are being sold dirt cheap at Walmart and elsewhere because Apple wants to phase out the 8GB, like it did the first-gen 4GB model, in favor of a mongo cell phone with twice the capacity of the latest 16GB handsets.
So what do you want to see? A smaller sub-phone or a capacious cell that can hold hundreds of apps? Personally, I?d love to see a smaller phone that manages somehow to retain the luscious 3-inch screen while also integrating a full physical QWERTY. Then again, I?d also love to lose 10 lbs on an all-chocolate diet, supplies of which were bought by my lottery winnings. But hey'that's just me.
Oh, and for those of you concerned for the Apple honcho's health (or more concerned for your stock in Apple? you lucky thing), CNBC reports that Jobsy is doing just fine. (UPDATE 1/5/09: Steve Jobs did admit to a hormone imbalance as the culprit for his weight loss this year, putting to rest that his health was declining due to a recurrence of cancer. He's already begun treatment for it and plans to continue serving as Apple's chief executive. Sadly, he'll be missed at MacWorld, which begins today. It'll be the first time he won't be delivering the keynote. In fact, say sources, this will be Apple's final appearance at the conference. See Noah's post for more.)
