CTIA preview: Helio making plans for later in '08; no Ocean 2 just yet

Helio's been knocked around in the news a bit lately, but a source tells me they're doing alright and planning some big things for later in the year.  Despite having been cut off by former parent company Earthlink earlier this year after costing them $111.3 million in net losses for 2007 (they're now the domain of SK Telecom), Helio  actually outpaces the industry in many key financial categories.  They added over 180,000 subscribers in Q4 '07, representing a 28% growth rate jump as compared to Q3, and generated $147M in revenues for the same quarter, a 147% jump from the Q4 '06.

So even though the short-term looks dicey at first glance, Helio's long-term prospects are still pretty good, depending on who you ask.  But it seems we shouldn't expect much from them at CTIA next month.  Sources tell me Helio's not quite ready to unveil any new handsets or plans, but to stay tuned: Everyone's favorite MVNO may have some big things planned for later in the year.
