RIM rumors: Curve to VZW and/or Sprint soon? HSDPA and touchscreen BlackBerry coming?

If this week's nationwide outage didn't scare you straight when it comes to that BlackBerry addiction you can't seem to shake, read on hearty emailer - we've got a few bits of news that may be of interest to you and your repetitively stressed thumbs.

First off, bbgeeks.com posted photos of the first CDMA BlackBerry Curve.  That can only mean my personal fave of the RIM stable is headed to Sprint and/or Verizon Wireless real soon.  The system info screen says model number 8330, and the Advanced Options screen shows GPS, and BB Geeks seems to think this one won't be for sale until March at the earliest.  So if you need a CDMA BlackBerry and don't like the Pearl's tiny keys, hold tight just a little longer, for help may be on the way.

Second, Reuters got a hold of RIM Co-CEO Jim Balsillie at MWC for long enough to get a few words out of him regarding a long-rumored touchscreen BlackBerry and the seemingly inevitable move to HSDPA-equipped devices.  Despite a patent describing a sliding, tilting, touchable BB having surfaced recently, Balsillie would only say, ""For sure we're looking at all kinds of different device packaging and presentation."  And here we were hoping for something more along the lines of, "Like everyone else, we want to make a fake iPhone of our own."

RIM's co-chief was a bit more specific regarding the 3G future of BlackBerries.  Reuters has him as saying, "Certainly going to HSDPA is something that's very important to us in the near term."  Now that T-Mobile's gone and promised the best 3G network ever by the end of the summer, one can only think that HSDPA BlackBerries will surface in time for Back to School '08, as well.
