Samsung Galaxy Note 7: Unboxing and First Look

I came back home to find many boxes full of goodies waiting for me—one of them being this one from Samsung. In early August, Samsung announced the brand new Galaxy Note 7, skipping the 6 in favor to line up their Galaxy S and Note line numerically. Many have said it’s one of the finest, if not, the best Android device ever made. Well, let’s find out.

The box is obviously not retail but what lies underneath the lid is definitely retail. On the left, we have the standard issue Galaxy Note 7 retail box and on the right side, the fast wireless charger for the phone though this one comes with a twist. Instead of being a flat surface charging pad, Samsung seamlessly added a base for the charger to sit at a pretty high angle, which makes it a perfect bed nightstand. I think that’s pretty thoughtful.

Over to the Note 7. We have received the 64GB model in Black Onyx. And once you remove the cover and cut the seal, you’re presented with the Galaxy Note 7 in all its glory. Once you lift the Note 7 up, you’ll find a tray which encloses the SIM removal tool and beneath that, you’ll find all your accessories such as the charger, some USB-C to USB adaptors, an S-Pen tip tool, and last but not least your typical In-Ear Sammy earphones.

As you probably know, the Note 7 is a fully packed Android super flagship. However, the 5.7-inch display size remains on this generation with the same resolution as the previous Note at Quad HD, though now we have curved edge panels similar to the S7 Edge. Inside, we have the Exynos 8890 Octa-Core processor chipset alongside a Mali-T880 GPU and 4GB of RAM. Also packed inside is a 3500mAh battery, a fingerprint scanner and something called an iris scanner on the front that scans your iris. Software-wise, it’s running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Samsung’s UI, formerly known as Touchwiz. Around the back, the Note 7 is packing a 12-megapixel camera with OIS and an LED flash.

Now it’s been a while for me and this is literally the first time I’ve picked up this phone even though it’s been sitting in my house for a few weeks now. I’ll definitely need some time to give back in the swing of things and also play around with the Galaxy Note 7 so make sure to keep locked to PhoneDog for my review of the Note 7 and the inevitable comparisons with the iPhone 7 and other similar devices.
