Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs LG G3: Comparison

Welcome to our comparison of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the LG G3.

These two devices, while they don’t go after the same exact market, are very close in specs and features. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is more of a device marketed towards a type of person who wants a large phone and knows it’s a large phone. While the LG G3 is a large phone marketed towards someone who wants a smaller and more compact device.

From looks alone, you see the differences in design. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is built with a squared off look that puts the display front and center. It has beautiful aluminum sides and faux leather backing, which makes the build quality a lot better than all the previous Galaxy Note models. The LG G3, on the other side, has a design that blends in the display into the entire device. Its design is universally curved. The back is designed to push the buttons out towards your fingers and the whole phone is slightly rounded so it sits naturally in the hand.

The displays are next on the list. While the resolution may be shared between these two, there are some big differences. Size-wise, we’re taking a look at a 5.5-inch Quad HD panel on the LG G3 and a 5.7-inch Quad HD panel on the Galaxy Note 4. The G3 uses IPS LCD which gives off more natural colors and more accurate colors but just looks relatively dark and dim when compared to the beautiful Super AMOLED display of the Galaxy Note 4. PPI, while pretty irrelevant when you both get over 500ppi, sits at this: the LG G3 squeezes 538ppi while the Galaxy Note 4 has 515ppi. Are you going to notice the pixel density difference? Not unless you’re going to be looking at it through a microscope.

The hardware’s also very similar. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is equipped with a 2.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 chip with 3GB of RAM and the Adreno 420 GPU. The LG G3 has a slightly less powerful 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 chip with 2 or 3GB of RAM (depending on which model you have) and the Adreno 330 GPU. Software’s the same in terms of Android 4.4.4 KitKat. But while the LG G3 has a small to moderate amount of customization to LG, the Note 4 is still running TouchWiz.

The cameras are similar but very different on these two. They do share the same feature of OIS and both do pretty darn well. But the big difference is between these two cameras are the quality and megapixels. The Note 4 has a superior 16MP camera sensor that just takes some astonishing photos and great videos and all has OIS. And the LG G3 has a 13MP camera, that’s not half-bad just not as good as the Galaxy Note 4.

The last feature I want to bring up is the battery life and size. The Galaxy Note 4 houses a 3220mAh battery and the G3 houses a 3000mAh battery. I do have the US variant of the LG G3 but this Galaxy Note 4 is still the international octa-core model. So I’ll leave the battery analysis when I do get my hands on the US variant of the Snapdragon processor.

That’s been a brief comparison of the Galaxy Note 4 and the LG G3.
