Beau HD compares the Google Nexus 9 against the Dell Venue 8 7000 in terms of real-world performance and speed. The Nexus 9 features a dual-core Nvidia Tegra K1 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz with a Kepler DX1 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The Dell Venue 8 7000 is equipped with a quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 CPU clocked at 2.3 GHz with a PowerVR G6430 GPU and 2GB of RAM.
The Nexus 9 isn’t the newest Android tablet on the market anymore. Instead, the Dell Venue 8 7000 is the most recent Android tablet. In this PhoneDog video, we’re going to have each tablet run through a variety of tests to see which one is faster based.
So on the left is the Nexus 9 and to the right is the Dell Venue 8 7000. For this speed test, I started each stopwatch and immediately started to run through a variety of popular apps. I would open them up, wait for the content to load and then press the home button and open the next app and so forth until the very last app was opened.
Specs
Now the Nexus 9 is equipped with a dual-core Nvidia Tegra K1 processor clocked at 2.3GHz with a Kepler DX1 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It’s also equipped with an 8.9-inch IPS LCD display with a 1536 x 2048 pixel resolution and a 281ppi.
The Dell Venue 8 7000 is equipped with a quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 CPU clocked at 2.3GHz with a PowerVR G6430 GPU and it has 2GB of RAM. It’s also equipped with an 8.4-inch OLED display with a 1600 x 2560 pixel resolution and a 359ppi.
In terms of specs, they really aren’t too different at all. I mentioned the display specs just because it does take more power to power more pixels, however the displays are very similar. The biggest difference I’d say would be the Intel Atom chip and the Nvidia Tegra K1 chip.
Speed Test
Now as these two are coming to a close it was very close. The Nexus 9 was actually ahead for a while but the Dell Venue 8 7000 actually snuck ahead and finished at 1:34 seconds while the Nexus 9 came in at 1:43 seconds. So it was very close.
Putting the Nexus 9 and Dell Venue 8 7000 side by side to open up each app at the same time after they’ve already been opened up to see which one performs better. One thing I’ve noticed is that the Dell Venue 8 7000 appears to open applications a little faster than the Nexus 9 and it can return home much faster in most cases.
The Nexus 9 does appear to be able to load games a lot quicker than the Dell Venue 8 7000. As it was able to load and let you play Subway Surfer and Crossy Road before the Dell Venue 8 7000. Pandora opened up really quick on the Venue 8 7000 and actually failed to load up on the Nexus 9 --- I thought that was interesting. Netflix opened up and loaded content a smidge faster on the Nexus 9 as well as YouTube which actually opened up significantly faster.
Everything else seemed to be pretty close for the most part, it was kinda back and forth. I will note that both of these tablets were connected to the same Wi-Fi connection so it is all very equal and fair.
