ASUS PadFone 2 Video Review Part 1

Aaron goes in-depth with the ASUS PadFone 2, a unique tablet/smartphone hybrid of sorts.  Available unlocked through Negri Electronics for around $800, the PadFone 2 features a smartphone that slides down into a tablet dock and powers the larger display.

Specifications include:

  • 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU
  • 4.7-inch 720p HD display (720x1280 pixels)
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • 13-megapixel camera with 1080p HD recording
  • 2,140 mAh battery
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with ASUS' UI
  • Tablet dock: 10.1-inch IPS display (1280x800 pixels, 5,000 mAh battery)

It would be fantastic to get a form factor like the PadFone 2 on at least one nationwide carrier in the United States.  There's a great use case here - after a long work day, popping the phone into the tablet accessory while on the couch sounds great.  It could easily be an expansion to the Samsung Galaxy Note or Motorola DROID XYBOARD line of devices.  Is it worth spending the money for (unlocked and unsubsidized), or are there better - and cheaper - options out there?  Part 1 of 2.
