If you weren’t able to reserve the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus that you wanted for launch day and were hoping to visit an Apple store on day one to secure your desired model, you may be out of luck.
Apple says that the iPhone 7 in Jet Black completely sold out during its pre-order process, as did all of its iPhone 7 Plus models. That means that if you’re visiting an Apple store on Sept. 16, your only options will be the iPhone 7 in silver, gold, and rose gold.
In its statement to TechCrunch, Apple suggests iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus availability “may vary” at partner stores, so you could check there if Apple’s stores won’t have the model that you want.
Apple’s full statement:
"We couldn’t be happier with the initial response to iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, and we are looking forward to beginning sales through our retail stores and partners around the world.
Beginning Friday, limited quantities of iPhone 7 in silver, gold, rose gold, and black will be available for walk-in customers at Apple retail stores. During the online pre-order period, initial quantities of iPhone 7 Plus in all finishes and iPhone 7 in jet black sold out and will not be available for walk-in customers. Availability at partner locations for all finishes may vary and we recommend checking directly with them.
Customers can continue to order all models in all colors on apple.com. We sincerely appreciate our customers’ patience as we work hard to get the new iPhone into the hands of everyone who wants one as quickly as possible."
This news is probably frustrating to consumers that weren’t able to secure the iPhone 7 that they want for launch day, but it’s also good to get the news now rather than have someone wait in line at an Apple store only to find out that the model they wanted was sold out the entire time. If you want a Jet Black iPhone 7 or any iPhone 7 Plus on launch day, your best bet is to visit your carrier’s store or a shop like Best Buy.
You can also still pre-order and iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus model from Apple’s website. You’ll likely be waiting a bit to get your phone if you do, though, as just about every model is backordered. For example, new orders of the silver iPhone 7 are expected to be delivered between Sept. 30 and Oct. 4, while new orders of the Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus won’t be delivered until November.
