The OnePlus 3 is officially launching on June 14, but some consumers will have the opportunity to buy it before then.
OnePlus has announced that 1,000 Chinese consumers will be able to buy the OnePlus 3 on June 6 at 10:00 am (10:00 pm ET on June 5). The catch is that they’ll be buying it blind, because the OP3 won’t be officially revealed until later in the month.
Those that do buy the OnePlus 3 blind will be asked to pay 2,999 yuan, or around $457 USD, but OnePlus notes that that is not the actual price of the OP3. When the phone and its official price are revealed, early buyers will either get a refund or be asked to pay the remainder on the phone.
So why buy the OnePlus 3 without actually seeing it first? OnePlus is throwing in a six-month screen warranty with each early purchase as well as a gift certificate worth 249 yuan ($38 USD). OnePlus also notes that early buyers that are unhappy with the OnePlus 3 once its revealed will have the option of canceling their order.
OnePlus is sort of synonymous with unique promotions. The company has come up with several interesting ways to try and sell their phones over the years, including the invite system that it’s finally ditching with the OnePlus 3 launch and a “Ladies First” contest that tried to get women to post photos of themselves in exchange for a OnePlus One invite.
This new OnePlus 3 promo is another interesting tactic from OnePlus 3, and I’ve no doubt that there will be some people that’ll want to secure their OP3 before anyone else. And while they will be buying the phone before its official reveal, the rumor mill has already spilled several of its features, so they won’t be going in totally blind.
Would you buy the OnePlus 3 without knowing anything about its looks, specs, or price?
