Could it be that there are simply too many tablet choices? Is that why I’ve been unable to pick one for my personal use so far? Choice is great for the consumer, but since I love technology so much, I can generally find a reason why I want a tablet pretty easily. Screen size. Platform. Hardware. Ecosystem. All of it, or one individual aspect, can all be adequate reasons why I (or you) should throw down our hard earned money.
With so many options, it could be a realistic problem for me. After all, if I buy one tablet, and another gets announced that I think I might want, then I obviously have to return that first tablet to get my hands on the other one. I’m not going to keep both, unlike some people out there. And since a tablet hasn’t been able to replace my laptop quite yet, I need something that fits into a very specific aspect of my life.
I think I can safely say that I want a tablet that has a “smaller” display. Meaning, anywhere in the 7- to 8-inch size slot. For example, after using an iPad mini, I can see why some people might say that the original iPad is a bit big, maybe even too heavy. The iPad mini’s size is almost perfect for a tablet, and I’ve said as much about a 7-inch tablet in the past, as well. The Nexus 7 is the perfect size, I think, as it fits in some strange, “ideal” hardware ecosystem I have envisioned in my mind.
(I envision my laptop, tablet, and phone sitting next to one another in some perfect, happy family. So, 13-inches, to (something significantly smaller), to something (slightly) smaller. Yes, that sounds almost perfect.)
There aren’t a lot of options within the smaller tablet screen-size, but I guess that’s just something that I’ve had to accept. Using the 7- to 8-inch screen size isn’t a make-it-or-break-it type of deal, not at all. But, I will tell you that a tablet that measures in above 10.1-inches is too big. I’ve got my laptop, thank-you-very-much.
So, I’ve asked you in the past how and why you use your tablet, but now I want to hear from you, Dear Reader, in which tablet you think is the best that’s available right now. Not one that was released back in the day that doesn’t have up-to-date specifications. Something that was released in the year 2012, specifically.
Here’s your situation: we’re looking for a tablet that will be used primarily for writing. So, applications that help that are a huge bonus. The tablet will also be used for some gaming, and some movie watching. There is also one major stipulation: it needs to have Cellular-connectivity out of the box. If you’ll recall, I think a tablet without that is utterly pointless (for my usage needs).
You’ve told me why you use a tablet, and how you use a tablet, but I want to know now which one you think is the absolute best on the market for something I would need. Or, if nothing else, just which tablet you think is the best compared to the rest. Is it the 4th-generation iPad? The iPad mini? The Nexus 7 or 10? Or how about the ASUS Transformer Pad? Or do you have another tablet in mind? Let me know what you think!
