One of the big announcements at Microsoft's event last month was the Surface Earbuds, the company's first attempt at truly wireless earbuds. Unfortunately for those of us looking forward to the Surface Earbuds, Microsoft today revealed that they've been delayed.
Panos Panay, Microsoft's Chief Product Officer, says that the Surface Earbuds have been delayed to spring 2020. They were originally slated to launch later this year.
"Product-making is about the relentless pursuit to get all the details right, which takes time...sometimes more than we planned on," Panay explained. "To ensure we deliver the best possible experience for you, our fans & customers, Surface Earbuds will now launch worldwide in Spring 2020."
Microsoft's Surface Earbuds are truly wireless earbuds with a touch surface that'll let you control your music and launch your digital assistant. They've got integration with Microsoft Office products, like the ability to access your Outlook calendar and email using your voice, and Android users can triple-tap to quickly access Spotify. These $249.99 earbuds include IPX4 water resistance and can get eight hours of battery life on a single charge, with the charging case getting you two additional charges.
The market for truly wireless earbuds has been heating up lately. There are solid new options from Apple, including the new AirPods Pro, and Samsung with its Galaxy Buds. Amazon recently launched its Echo Buds and Google's got some new wireless earbuds of its own coming soon. Because of all this competition, it's important for the Surface Earbuds to be good if Microsoft wants them to stand out, and so it's probably smart for the company to take some extra time and ensure that the Surface Earbuds are as good as they can be before they're unleashed to the public.
