I can't stand them, but.........

Posted on: November 29th, 2008 by Dustin Smith

The good: They are cheap, unlimited everything (text, pics, video, local and long distance) for under 50$/month. Extremely low foreign rates per min.The bad: Localized calling area, only covering a few counties in north Tx. Very limited phone selection.Summary: If you don't travel more than 80 miles, if you want to strictly have an unlimited mins phone for your kid for about 25$/month, if having phones that are a couple years old with no frills at all and paying a jacked up price, if you have family in other countries, if you don't mind rooting through the least user friendly customer service menus and talkin to the dumbest and least job enthused people once you do get through than you can't beat it. You can travel with the phones, they lease roaming access from other carriers to use their towers, it just costs alot. Also if you travel/move to an area that has metropcs there, you can use the phone just as if you were at home.

I like MetroPCS service

Posted on: November 19th, 2008 by Anonymous

The good: Is expanding service areas. Even with buying your own phone, the plans are cheaper. The bad: You have to purchase your cell phone outright, but for the price of the service it is worth it. You miss a month you have to play catch up to keep your number, You can roam, but you pay $0.49 per minute and you have to let MetroPCS know you are going to be in roam mode ahead of time.Summary: With MetroPCS you have buy your own cell phone. Plans are as follows (11/19/2008):$35.00 unlimited minutes local only$45.00 unlimited minutes local and long distance$55.00 unlimited minutes local and long distance, web services and plus the other services you would pay separate for. Texting services with all plans is $3.00 per month extra, but as with all of the MetroPCS services it is unlimited texting. MetroPCS just recently added Lansing and Flint Michigan areas to their service areas. There is a $3.00 service charge for paying a payment through a vendor/dealer. I think a $3.00 service charge is cheap, versus a $80.00 payment per month and on up for the other cellular service. MetroPCS is a bit high on adding family to your service, $25.00, but there is no shared minutes and they get the same services that the main phone line gets as well (you still have to pay the extra $3.00 for phone texting per person per month). For the most part it is an excellent service at the right price.

I Phone "killer" NO, 2 yr Contract "killer" YES !!!!

Posted on: October 7th, 2008 by Sanjoy Ganguly

The good: Great solution for consumers that can pinpoint their usage and needs. No surprises. Great international rates, CHECK IT OUT. Wont miss your two year contract if you dont need that extra unused capacity like .... coverage in MARS.The bad: Some areas have coverage blackout. Limited models.Cheap brand perception .. but, my friends dont pay my bills!!!Summary: NEEDS: I need two phones. One with unlimited web browsing and talk, the other for occasional calls.I WAS PAYING: $ 125.00 month minimum and frequently more, for peak and extra minutes nonsense, for two lines with 700 mins talk and one line with unlimited browsing.NOW: I am paying $ 50.00 to MetroPCS for unlimited web and talk on one line and $ 9.99 a month to TRACFONE for 50 mins a month for the standby line with rollover. SO after six months I have 250 minutes on my TRACFONE and it keeps growing with rollover. Also, I am saving on my international calls with MetropCS, 2 cents a min to Europe and 8 cents a min to Asia.BOTTOM LINE: My total bill has gone down from over $ 250 a month to $ 60 a month for domestic and $ 90 a month if I include the international calls. A savings of over $ 160 a month or almost $ 2000 a year, thats almost $ 2900 in gross pay before taxes.PREREQUISITE: Make sure you have good coverage in your area. Most of my calls are in a 50 mile radius and Metro PCS covers every inch of it. When I am not talking I am on the web having a ball. When roaming, and I lose Metro PCS coverage I use the TRACFONE. When I am in my calling area I save a bundle on the international calls.OPINION: I was paying for excess capacity and bells and whistles that I did not really need. The coverage map with my earlier carrier looked impressive but I never really called anybody in Cucamoonga or Tuskegee. Also, the fancy brands looked cool but thats where it ended, I never really used all its features. And whats the point in paying through the nose for two years when the novelty of a sexy phone died off in a few weeks.ADVICE: So folks identify your NEEDS carefully first. Where and when your calls are mostly made. How many minutes? Talk or text? Then have a backup for roaming like the TRACFONE. Put that two grand in the bank. Time we start spending wisely in these hard times.

Metro PCS insurance plans

Posted on: October 2nd, 2008 by SHEENIA BROWN

The good: It is cheap monthlyThe bad: Not the best deal when insuring a cheap phone.Summary: I purchased a $180 phone with insurance. It was damaged and to replace it I was told i would have to pay over $100. What's the point of getting insurance? I could have purchased a $100 phone and not even bothered with insurance.

Unfortunatly you get what you pay for

Posted on: August 14th, 2008 by Anonymous

The good: CheapThe bad: Purchased the best phone they had to offer(Samsung SCH-R410)..it gets no signal in my home and the battery goes dead in about a third of the time of the phone it replaced (Blackberry Curve)Summary: I thought I'd give Metro a shot, as my bill with Tmobile averaged around $150 Versus $55 for Metro. But it gets zero signal in my home (I live in the middle of St Pete, Fl..not in the boonies somewhere).Since I get about half of my calls when I'm at home, it's worthless to me.

You Pay for their Mistakes

Posted on: December 13th, 2007 by Anonymous

The good: Fair pricing for unlimited services. The bad: Poor customer service.Summary: Customer serivce rep's including supervisors can't see beyond company policy scripts and are inflexable. Unwilling to fix their own mistakes, right a wrong and keep customer happy. When I pay for service, I expect to get every minute of said service.

Mediocre - needs improvent

Posted on: October 24th, 2007 by John Smith

The good: Cheap,no contract, unlimited serviceThe bad: Weak signal , poor customer serviceSummary: The signal is weak in many places within the designated coverage area . They sold me a "new" phone that actually had been used (maybe a return) . If they really want to expand their market to the traditonal wireless customer who has other options, then they should follow through with what they advertise and have good customer service .
