Cingular ~ Just Not What It Used to Be

Posted on: August 22nd, 2006 by Karen Hudson

The good: I like that I can call people who use Cingular wireless for free. This allows me to call my parents who live out of state without worrying about limiting my call time or worrying about long distance. It also comes in handy because my husband is a truck driver and since there are no roaming fees he can call me from anywhere. The bad: Ever since Hurricane Katrina, Cingular service is just not what it used to be. Trying to find a signal lately seems to be hit or miss. My family and I experience many dropped calls. Summary: Cingular wireless was great when I signed up with them three years ago. However, the service realibility is just not what it used to be. Trying to get a signal is hit or miss. Also, the amount of dropped calls is unacceptable.

Reception problems

Posted on: August 22nd, 2006 by ERIC GIN

The good: Rollover MinutesThe bad: I have had Cingular for over a year now, and I have had many problems with reception. I continue to have dropped called, and no reception throughout my city. Summary: Cingular needs to put more cell sites throughout the whole LA County. They claim to have the lowest dropped number of calls, but I don't believe it. They really need to update their system.

Poor Customer Service and Quailty

Posted on: August 22nd, 2006 by GREGORY JURENA

The good: Excellent coverage, good phones, started out having great customer serviceThe bad: customer service has gone down the drain, they add charges to my account without my approval, they change plans on youSummary: Been with the company for 8 years plus without ever a problem until I added my wife to the plan. They tried charging for her free phone. I can called and changed it. Then they kept disconnecting my number which I had had for 8 years! I would have to call everyday to reconnect! They told me that i would have to change my number to fix the problem.I have had nothing but heaches with Cingular and I am about to change Carriers.

Plain and Simple- Cingular

Posted on: August 22nd, 2006 by Julienne Scheibe

The good: No more dropped calls, service in areas that are rural for most other carriers and inclusive local and long distance! The bad: None found to date!! I love it, love it, love it!! Summary: This is the easiest review I have ever had to do! I have just been waiting for someone to ask me about my cell service! EVERYONE needs to switch to Cingular!! Could the service be any better? Not just the customer service at the time that I got dewired up but the phone service itself! I do a lot of traveling for work and have used Nextel, Verizon, Cellular One and a few others that have since gone belly up and Cingular is the best hands down!! I have had my Motorola Rzr now for nearly a year and have not experienced one dropped call! I ALWAYS have service and I think the best way to relate this is to tell you a little story... I was in Colorado (outside of Denver) when I had decided to visit a girlfriend in the mountain ski village of Winter Park. It was Memorial Day weekend, it was dark already and I was proceeding through the mountain pass at the Continental Divide- Over 10,000 ft and in a valley. While coming through the pass, the weather changed drastically and went from 80 degrees below to 32 degrees where I was. I started to get hit with heavy rain which proceeded to turn into a blinding blizzard! There were cars pulled over everywhere but I could not see where I was as there are no street lights and it was pitch black in white out conditions! I had no idea where I was as I was unfamiliar with the area. (Funny thing that maps are only useful when you know where you are!) I was scared to go forward and move on as I had no idea how much further I had to travel and I was about to hit some very steep downslope grades. Do I go back? Do I stop and wait it out? Do I go on? Well, it didn't take long to decide. I called my family back in IL and spoke to them - no problems getting out and calling over 1000 miles away in the middle of the Rockies in a blizzard! I was amazed and extremely relieved to say the least! Well, you know the rest! My family advised that I was probably at the top and that I should move on before it got worse. As I went down, the snow would dissipate to snow and it would be fine. The satellite weather showed nothing but a concentrated storm so I carried on! I lived through the ordeal and got instructions to keep going as the downgrades signaled I was at the top of the pass and it was all downhill from there! I left the rest of the stopped people in the snow at the top and carried on making it to my girlfriend's a little late but no worse for wear! I LOVE my Cingular and if my phone can work there (and Hawaii by the way) it will work anywhere! It is dependable and priced reasonably and I don't ever get killed with overages thanks to rollover minutes! Cingular is my friend for life!!!

Cingular Wireless

Posted on: August 22nd, 2006 by Anonymous

The good: Help line at company is helpful. The bad: Dropped signals, dropped calls, service areaSummary: I have tried all of the phone service companies and I think that cingular is one of the baddest out there. I seldom get full signal strenth. This provider has the most dead spot I've ever seen. The phones they give for free upon joining are the cheapest qualitty phone on the market that would never last the whole contract time.

Posted on: August 22nd, 2006 by Katrena Bass

The good: I like that i have very few places where i can not get service. I live in a very rural area and another company i had their service would not reach here. I have had wonderful customer service any time I have had to call them . Thanks a bunch. The bad: none reallySummary: The service i have received has been excellent . I have tried other companies and they always had too many areas where i could not use the phone. This service has very few dropped calls or no service areas.

CINGULAR FAMILY PLAN

Posted on: August 21st, 2006 by L H

The good: CARRYOVER MINUTESNO DROPPED CALLSThe bad: POOR RECEPTION AT TIMESSummary: Overall CINGULAR the best of the major carriers for us (3 family members). Most of our friends and family members are also Cingular users so we always have appx 2000 carryover minutes each month despite a 20 page bill. While the reception can be poor at times - it's not so bad that I would drop it to go with another carrier and get less value on the minutes.

Can't wait until my contract runs out.

Posted on: August 20th, 2006 by Christen Niles

The good: Minutes roll over. Customer service is friendly. The bad: Read Summary.Summary: Frustration sums up in one word my feelings with Cingular service. Their commercial "fewest dropped calls" should have a caveat: "Does not apply in Maine". I am constantly having calls dropped, fading in and out. One night my mom said I was fading in and out, in rhythm. I sat still in my rocking chair and the problem resolved - the zone was THAT sensitive - 6" either way and I wouldn't have service. My friends and family don't even expect that I will answer my phone, because 75% of the time I have no service or SOS only. I hate that I am wrapped into a 2 year contract with them, and can't wait until January when I can hook up with a different carrier.

Cingular Wireless in Missouri backcountry

Posted on: August 20th, 2006 by Anonymous

The good: Get strong signals with this serviceThe bad: their phone insuranceSummary: We decided to go with Cingular wireless service where we live. We found that we have great signal with this service way out in the middle of no where (which is where we live). We do have a few uncovered spots on our 45 minute drive to town, but those are mostly when you go down in a valley between two hills. This carrier seems to cover more of the part of the country where we live than other carriers. We have never had any issues with our billing and the statement is correct every months. I love the rollover minutes as most of the people we call also have Cingular services so we have a lot of minutes saved up. The only problem we have seen is with the phone insurance. If something happens to your phone, they will replace it, but then it does cost to get the phone activated and things. I believe with the phone insurance it should replace the phone and activate it, leaving you with no charges. Otherwise if you lose your phone late in your contract you end up paying way too much for a phone (through insurance fees) than you would have to go buy it new yourself and have it activated.

Best reception!

Posted on: August 19th, 2006 by Philipp Bauer

The good: Great reception; no cut-offsThe bad: Dead spots, but all carriers have them; SMS messages are often delayedSummary: I've switched to cingular, and it was the best move ever. I get reception almost everywhere and I never get cut off.
