We've heard rumblings that a OnePlus Watch is in the works, but now it's been confirmed by OnePlus itself that the company is working on a smartwatch.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the OnePlus smartwatch is happening. While Lau didn't reveal much else about the watch in his interview with Input, he did tease that the OnePlus smartwatch will run Google's Wear OS, despite previous rumors saying it would not.
While Lau admitted that Wear OS "definitely has room to improve," he said that OnePlus is working with Google to improve the connectivity between Android phones, watches, and TVs.
"What we're trying to do is work with Google to try to improve the connectivity between the Wear OS ecosystem, Android TV, and Android smartphones to create this ability for better device interoperability across the ecosystems," Lau explained. "This has been something looked at very positively from Google's side as well, so this is the direction that we're trying to develop, but we don't have more than we can share on that right now."
Beyond that, there's little known about OnePlus's first smartwatch. Rumors say that the device will have a round display, but there's no word on what specs it might come equipped with.
Lau also touched a bit on foldable phones in this interview. He said that OnePlus is "keeping a close eye" on the foldables market but suggested that OnePlus won't be diving in itself any time soon, explaining that "one of the biggest issues" with foldable phones is for apps and the Android OS to take really take advantage of the bigger screen that foldables give you.
