Google talks workout upgrades coming to Google Fit on Wear OS

Google recently announced some improvements that it's bringing to the Wear OS version of Google Fit, and now the company has gone into more detail on those workout-related upgrades.

Workout tracking with Google Fit on Wear OS is getting a redesign that'll help you see important info more quickly. When you're exercising, you'll see key metrics on two tiles dedicated to your performance, showing things like your distance, calories burned, heart rate, and more. Media controls and settings can be accessed with a swipe to the right.

Wear OS can alert you at each kilometer or mile, showing your split time at a glance, and giving you an update on how you're doing against your last split. You can also quickly check to see if you're earning Heart Points with the heart rate zones at the top of your screen.

You can also tap to customize the workout metrics that are displayed to see what's most important to you, like calories, steps, time, or Heart Points. There's also a Touch Lock button that you can press in a workout to prevent accidental touches. Just hold the power button to switch it off again.

Workout goals can be set for things like a target distance, calorie count, steps, or Heart Points, and you can get updates on each goal throughout each workout. And when you reach your daily goal for steps or Heart Points, Wear OS will show you a celebration animation.

Finally, there's a new Breathe Tile that'll offer guided breathing sessions to help you cool down after a workout. You'll get a summary when you're done that'll show how your heart rate changed between the beginning and end.

Google says that these Wear OS workout upgrades will begin appearing on watches this week.
