Facebook app's dark mode begins rolling out more widely

We've been hearing about the Facebook app's dark mode for more than a year, but now it looks like the feature is finally starting to roll out broadly.

The Facebook apps for Android and iPhone are now officially starting to get dark mode. Facebook's Alexandru Voica confirmed the rollout to app researcher Jane Manchun Wong, who first spotted Facebook's dark mode development last year.

To enable dark mode in your Facebook app, go to the "Menu" page and scroll down to the "Settings & Privacy" section. Open that up and you should see a "Dark Mode" option. From there you can choose to turn dark mode on or off or have the Facebook app change between light and dark modes based on your phone's settings.

Dark mode is still in the process of rolling out to all Android and iPhone users, so it may take a few days before it pops up in your app.

Facebook began rolling out dark mode in its apps last year, including the Messenger and Instagram apps as well as the Facebook website. It's good to see the feature finally come to Facebook's main app, too, giving you the option of using a darkened UI so you don't blind yourself with a bright white screen when using your phone at night.
