Disney+ has surpassed another subscriber milestone.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek confirmed today that the Disney+ streaming service has more than 60.5 million paid subscribers (via Variety). Chapek confirmed the news today during Disney's Q3 2020 earnings call, where he also said that Mulan will premiere on Disney+ starting September 4 for $29.99 after its theatrical release was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
To compare, Netflix says that it's got 193 million paying subscribers, but it's worth keeping in mind that Netflix's streaming service has been around for years now while Disney+ has only existed for around 9 months.
In its Q3 2020 earnings announcement, Disney also said that Hulu has a total of 35.5 million paying subscribers, including 3.4 million that subscribe to Hulu's Live TV service. ESPN+ has 8.5 million paying subscribers.
The last time that we checked in on Disney+'s subscriber count was the start of April when the service has surpassed 50 million subs. That means it's gained another 10 million paying subscribers in the last four months, a stat that's likely been aided by people staying home to fight the spread of COVID-19 and looking for new things to watch while they're there.
